Abstract
The purpose of this study was to observe morphologically the effect of X-ray irradiation on bone formation and to examine qualitatively the deposition of calcium and phosphorous in the hole and the around of IMZ implant after implantation of HA coated IMZ implant in rabbit¢¥s tibia.
At 3 days,1,2,4,8 weeks after irradiation group and control group of animal were sacrificed. HA coated IMZ implanc associated with bone tissue where fixed with 10% neutral formalin, dehydrated, and embedded with Spurr low viscosity resin. Afer the specimen was cut by 500§ with diamond wheel saw, these were grinded up to 100§ with grinder, examined with light microscope and were detected for qualitative calcium and phosphorus by EPMA(Electron probe microrle analysis). The obtained results were as follows.
1. In toluidin blue staining of 3 days of control group, osteoid tissue near IMZ implant was weakly seen. From 1 to 2 weeks trabecular bone fFom original surrounding bone was associated with new bone around inlplant. On 4 weeks trabecutar bone from original surrounding bone, partially surrounding implant, ran into inner side. On 8 weeks trabecular bone with irregular anangement of osteocytes from original surrounding bone, surrunding implant, run toward cenual portion.
2. In toluidin blue staining of 3 days to 1 week of experimental group, bone formaion was similar to that of control group. On 2 weeks new bone formation in hole and new trabecular bone from original surrounding bone, partially surrounding implant, ran into inner side. On 4 weeks trabecular bone in inner side was seen. On 8 weeks trabecular bone from original surrounding bone, completely surrounding implant, ran into central porrion.
3. In EPMA study, both of them showed that phosphorous deposition level in attached new bone was higher than calcium deposition level, while reverse in hole. In atrached bone in hole, calcium deposition level was similar to phosphorous.
4. In EPMA study after 8 weeks of irradiation, calcium deposition was the highest, while in attached new bone calcium deposition level was no change from 4 to 8 weeks. Similar phosphorous deposition but very low calcium deposition in attached trabecular bone was seen.
5. Bone formation and mineralization of experimental group of 8 weeks were¡¤superior than that of control group.
From avove results, in 8 weetks of experimental group there was nos completely filled and not calcified with bone in hole, but new bone was rapidly formed around HA coated implant. After 4 weeks. phosphorous deposition was not increased, while there was a increased calciun deposition. It was concluded that X-ray irradiation might stimulate bone formation around HA coated IMZ implant, but there was no information about damage of bone tisssue and cells.
